About a week ago, I emailed the local Scout Camp here to see if I could get permission to detect there. It is really old, and has been there since the 30's. I eventually got a call from the guy who runs the place, and I met him there this morning. He was very keen for me to detect. His sons came along and apparently they gave been interested in detecting for a while. They have even researched getting detectors from doculam. Tony gave me the tour and gave me the history of the camp grounds. I was excited to get going, so as soon as they left, I got my headphones on and started detecting.
One thing he asked me to try do was find an eye bolt in the ground that was used many years ago to anchor a zip line. It was encased in concrete. I said I would give it a try. I knew I would find several tent pegs, and I wasn't disappointed. Lol. Because I was looking for this anchor point, I was running the ATPro in Pro zero mode. This allowed me to hear all metal. I was able to find the anchor point (I think) which was really cool.
I got a range of finds, from a Scout scarf clip to a gold ring!! Yes, you read that correctly
. It rang up as a 61 on the AtPro. It even has a 18CT stamp on it. I was so excited that I could not detect for much longer and I then went home. I was crushed though when I got home and cleaned it up. There were areas on the ring where I could see the base metal underneath. A FAKE!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I am going to get it tested anyway, just to make sure. What a bummer!
Anyway.... Enjoy
