Scout camp finds

  • on: May 21, 2016, 06:53 PM
About a week ago, I emailed the local Scout Camp here to see if I could get permission to detect there. It is really old, and has been there since the 30's. I eventually got a call from the guy who runs the place, and I met him there this morning. He was very keen for me to detect. His sons came along and apparently they gave been interested in detecting for a while. They have even researched getting detectors from doculam. Tony gave me the tour and gave me the history of the camp grounds. I was excited to get going, so as soon as they left, I got my headphones on and started detecting.

One thing he asked me to try do was find an eye bolt in the ground that was used many years ago to anchor a zip line. It was encased in concrete. I said I would give it a try.  I knew I would find several tent pegs, and I wasn't disappointed. Lol. Because I was looking for this anchor point, I was running the ATPro in Pro zero mode. This allowed me to hear all metal. I was able to find the anchor point (I think) which was really cool.

I got a range of finds, from a Scout scarf clip to a gold ring!! Yes, you read that correctly :D. It rang up as a 61 on the AtPro. It even has a 18CT stamp on it. I was so excited that I could not detect for much longer and I then went home. I was crushed though when I got home and cleaned it up. There were areas on the ring where I could see the base metal underneath. A FAKE!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I am going to get it tested anyway, just to make sure. What a bummer!

Anyway.... Enjoy

Nice finds Paul. Hope the ring is real 18ct and diamonds. Might be a refund on the AT Pro if its a real ring. From the photos it do look real and the part that looks plated might polish off. Very nice finds.

I was able to go back to the camp today, and wow, did I have a good day. I dug so many holes, and hardly any of them were trash. I found some cool pins and badges, as well as a 2 1/2 shilling piece!! Awesome. My heart nearly stopped. You don't really find big silver like this here

I also found 2 old tiekie. 1917 and 1918. The ones with the three on it with a crown. My first like this ever.

Enjoy

I had organised a hunt for today with Quentin and Wart (Warren). It was Warren's first time out with his detector, and he had a great time, finding a penny as well a tiekie. It took me ages to find a tiekie when I started detecting.

My finds today we're not as great as the last time I was at the Scout Camp, but they were good none the less. I found my second ever shilling (Quentin found one today too) and a nice Boy Scout pin. I also found a leather woggle (used to hold neck scarf tight). Other than that I found loads of 1&2c coins. A few pennies and 1/4 pennies were also found
