It is
illegal to metal detect in Cyprus without a permit.
To obtain a permit, you need to fill out the application form together with a police clearance certificate to the address provided on the form (or via email to the Department of Antiquities)
Permit is valid for 5 years and then you will need to renew your permit.
Once you have a permit, you are only allowed to detect within designated areas specified (see attachment).
Failure to comply can see you facing hefty fines and jail sentence.
