I don't know if its the firmware update  but I noticed tonight how poor the detector is on nickel all of a sudden. Our local older nickel is basically pure nickel and I have a old Namibian cupro nickel that virtually doesn't register if I lay it flat. Lucky working in 40khz seems to bring them back. All the other modes including multi makes for undiggable target signal or a jumpy pull tab at best. In 40 you manage to get some high numbers. I hope this is not an issue with the 600. Maybe I'll roll back the firmware sometime but at least there is a way around it. Still happy with this detector. Its hitting small targets missed in hunted out relic sites.

The firmware has proved its ability with silver for me. I pulled a really worn and thin 3pence last week.

Hi George. I have the Equinox 800 as well that has been upgraded. I dont have any issues with my machine at all. I have been hunting in areas that has been hunted hard with other machines and still manage to find old coins and relics with my nox. I dont have any old nickel coins otherwise i could have tested my machine to see if it does the same as yours

Hi George. Ok i tested my Equinox 800 on a old 1966 20c piece, my vdi numbers are low jumping around from 5 up to 7 and 12 and back to 5 using the multi frequency.

Yes if you set it to 40 it gives a good high vdi on nickel. It might be that american nickel was tested and fine nickel wasn't.

Both the 800-600's profile multi frequency modes(apart from gold) use the same combination of simultaneous frequencies(On both detectors it's never higher than 15khz, Mode 1 of each profile uses the loser of those(5-10khz) and Mode2 the higher end(10-15khz). None of these modes in multi includes 20Khz or 40Khz processing, The 600 does not have the ability to have 20 or 40 as specific ranges. Only the more comprehensive manual(not the full manual) that comes with the detector actually show what the frequencies are in each profile. Multi might be a marketing gimmick but it seems to imply mode 1 multi to be 5-10 Mode 2 multi to be 10-15 for each set of environments apart from gold.

The old 20, 10 and 5c coins have always been a problem for all the detectors I have ever owned. Even on my ATPro I get a very dirty jumpy signal. Each time I do dig one of those coins, its only because I have decided to dig everything, not because the signal was good
